Batie Cattle Co. Lexington, NE We have used a variety of cultivators on our farm, and we have found no cultivator better than the Hybrid Rolling Cultivator from 100th Meridian Manufacturing. We raise ridge-till, continuous corn on our gravity-irrigated fields, which leaves plenty of residue for the next year’s crop. We owned both Orthman and Buffalo high-residue cultivators before we tried the Hybrid Rolling Cultivator. Now we run two Hybrid Rolling Cultivators. The Hybrid Rolling Cultivator handles the residue MUCH better than either Orthman or Buffalo. This cultivator leaves a more granulated soil surface than any cultivator we’ve tried, no more slabbing on our heavy soil ground. One year we ran both the Buffalo and the Hybrid Rolling Cultivator and our agronomist could tell to the row which cultivator had been used several weeks later during the irrigation season. The ground cultivated with the rolling cultivator had more soil moisture and was looser than the ground cultivated with the Buffalo. The pin adjust gang clamps and open top shields make adjustment easy and quick. We no longer need barring off discs since the spiders get close enough to the plants without tearing out the roots. " Our certified organic operation relies heavily on timely and effective cultivation. We use the Hybrid(Fasse) rolling cultivator in a number of ways. We ridge till, and use last years irrigation furrow to ridge till this years planting. We often need to contain weeds pre-plant to conserve moisture. To handle them, we'll run the cultivator to trim weed growth on the bottoms & sides of our furrows on irrigated ground. It's a fast operation (often 8 to 10 mph) and an effective way of clearing early weed growth, but still leaves the ridge top to shave off at planting time.
The adjustment possibilities available on this machine, for early cultivator and row shielding make cultivation possible within very close crop tolerance enabling more precise control of weeds growth close to the row. This is espcially nice for soybeans by producing a sharper ridge for closer harvest and the ability to deposit soil (not dirt clods) closer to the plant relates to a better quality of beans, a valuable quality when you are dealing with organic food grade beans. All in all, a very god cultivator tool whether organic or conventional. I'd recommend this cultivator as a valuable cropping tool."
